The Adelaide Easter Festival and Spectacular has just wound up for 2010. And what a Spectacular it was, it was the strongest field Adelaide has seen in many years. Both the Saturday and Sunday were well supported by the general public as well as regular dance goers. Competitors from NSW & Victoria as well as Locals made up a strong field with over 250 competitors. All age groups were well represented. The atmosphere at the venue was electric, with great music, great dancing what more could you want.
The Adults, Professionals and Masters Sections were top class, thrilling the audience with their grace and skill on the dance floor. Social Dancers were not forgotten with a Social Dance on the Saturday Evening Hosted by Mark Wilson, Two floor shows by Paul Biddle & Sheree Holly andSteven Grinbergs & Rachelle Plaass giving everyone a taste of what would be presented to us at the Easter Sunday Event.
DASA would like to thank all those involved in making this event a great success which include the DASA committee and its supporters and all the interstate Dance Schools, who brought their students to Adelaide. We look forward to making next years event bigger and better. If you had a great time in Adelaide, tell others as word of mouth is a powerful thing, if you have suggestions tell us, because we eager to learn how to make this event better.
Happy Dancing Everyone.
Yvonne Klop
WOW! What a weekend of dance it was! The Easter Spectacular week end of dance would have to go down as THE best DanceSport event(s) staged in Adelaide for many years. A marathon and smorgasbord of 3 dance events, catering for ALL dancers… something for every one, including the glamorous Dancewear Australia stall of products & services, all under the one roof – Adelaide’s favourite dance venue – Wonderland Ballroom.
The week end started with the Easter DanceSport Festival on Saturday, traditionally the ‘warm up’ event for competitors for the following day. Spectator numbers were up, competitor numbers were up- both locally and interstate. More couples took advantage of this festival to test their skills against fellow competitors, in readiness for the big Championship to follow.

We are always looking for ways to improve the participation rate and the awareness of the general public to our wonderful sport. The DASA committee can do only so much but I’m sure we could do much more in 2010 with the strength of more members. General membership is available right NOW. Become a member at just $20 per year and you can have a voice at our Annual General Meeting, Sunday 28 February.
On the 11-13th December the Australian Dancesport Championships were held at the Hisense Arena in Melbourne. 28 Registered South Australian couples attended this championship event and they were among 726 couples from all over Australia and overseas.
Event organisers were very pleased with the numbers, the highest number of entries for some years. Considering the downturn in the economy these large events have had good support.
During the weekend we saw participants from all categories (Masters/Juniors/Juveniles/Youth& Adult) competing. The standard of competition was very high and improving every year.
The following South Australian Couples were placed in their events. We would like to congratulate them on their success. Event: | | Result: | 9. Masters 1 Level 1 Latin Final | | 3rd - Chris Davies & Gail Sprott |

The DASA committee would like to wish everyone in the Dancing Community and its wider supporters a wonderful 2010. With the new decade begins a renewed enthusiasm to see Dancesport flourish and grow. It was pleasing to see new competitors taking to the floor particularly in the Masters and Adult section at our competitions in 2009. It was also pleasing to see the influx of social/medallist dancers to the floor and we hope that many will be inspired to take the next step to compete as registered dancesport competitors.

From the President.
I’m sure all that attended would agree that the 2009 State Title DanceSport Championships were an outstanding success.
Firstly- many thanks to the DASA committee for their hard work and assistance the months prior and on the day, assisting me to ensure that everything ran smoothly all afternoon and evening. During the evening session, one of our special guests, Liberal MP Martin Hamilton-Smith presented me with a cheque for $1400, being a grant from the Department of Sport and Recreation for DASA to purchase some new equipment. Being a non-profit organization during harder economic times – a grant for such purposes is timely and most appreciated.
To the competitors- many congratulations- so many outstanding performances and success stories. More history to be engraved on many a Perpetual Trophy. It was also great to see many social & medallist competitors- some competing for the very first time. Also good to see new faces in the registered Adult & Masters level 1 and 2 events. All these couples are our Open Champions of tomorrow. Thank you to ALL competitors for your support of this event.
To the spectators- hope you enjoyed the wonderful spectacle that is Dancesport, thank you for your patronage and we look forward to your company again at our next event – the DASA Summer DanceSport Festival at Wonderland, Sunday 29 November. Tell your friends and bring them along – we would love to see even MORE people witness the athleticism and artistry of our fabulous DanceSport couples.
Click on Competition Results to see names of all winners and place getters in all the days events. Click on the Photo Gallery – additional photos of many of the couples in action and Title winners will be upload here over the next couple of weeks – so visit us again soon to see some more.
Happy Dancing,
Rhett English

The National Capital DanceSport Championships in Canberra are nearly upon us. If you happened to be in the neighbourhood we would like to encourage you to support our competitors during this spectacular weekend of Ballroom Dancing. Organisers tell us that, this year they have record entries from couples across all age groups and locations, in total 452 up by 10%
The event is held annually over the last complete weekend in June at the prestigious Australian Institute of Sport Arena in Canberra (the capital city of Australia). The Arena has a large sprung dance floor with an excellent surface for competitive dancing. The tiered seating along the two long sides of the dance floor provides an excellent view of the dance floor from every seat. The AIS Arena is arguably one of the best venues in Australia to stage a major DanceSport Championships.
The Saturday program consists of events for those under 11 years, under 13 years, under 16 years, under 19 years and over 50 years as well as an Adult 10 dance event (5 Latin American & 5 Ballroom dances).
The Sunday program will consist of events for professionals, Adults and for those over 35 years as well as a 6 dance event for under 13 years and an 8 dance event for those under 16 years.
Organisers of the event are proud to announce that the 2009 NCDC will feature current World Professional Latin American Champions Michael Malitowski & Joanna Leunis from Poland.
